This morning dawned with moderately blue skies (for the first time since we have arrived) – nothing like the blue of a South African morning, but after nearly a week of bleak grey weather, any sign of a lift is welcome…that said however, we are not letting the weather get us down and rain or shine we are out an about exploring our environs.
Today we took a huge chance, and after breakfast jumped in Madge and headed off to Burgess Hill, the largest town (still not a city) near to us. They do have a large pedestrian area which is quite nice, and there is certainly a much bigger variety of shops…but even with that we were unable to find Phillip any decent shoes – it would seem that he has exceptionally large feet for a 7 year old (by English standards), so wide in fact they didn’t even measure on the English shoe size scale. Needless to say in absolute desperation, I have resorted to a pair of Crocs (yes the real deal) at the princely sum of 20 pounds (no don’t even do the maths, it will be enough to make you sick) but when being paid in pounds it isn’t that bad and as the price for mine and Phil sanity it was happily paid!
Must say the more I drive around and explore this part of England, the more I am enjoying it – it really is a very beautiful part of the world and it has a very peaceful feel to it. Traffic can be a bit crazy at times, but the speed limit is about 30 miles per hour (+- 75kms) in the towns and every one seems happy enough to cruise along at that speed and is perfectly patient with the zig zag driving as you move out of the way to let an oncoming car pass due to the exceptionally narrow streets
Registered with the NHS (National Health Insurance) today and am due to see the midwife on Tuesday afternoon, am sure that all is fine, but it will be nice to start getting myself a little more prepared for the birth.
