Sunday 12th April 2009

If my long held belief that if something is tooooo difficult to achieve it is not meant to happen is true then our trip to London this long weekend was definitely not on the cards. Once again our plans were thwarted this morning, but this time by cold, grey damp weather and weather forcasts filled with doom and gloom of more miz to come and as London in the cold is not much fun at all and as it isn't going anywhere we decided to laugh the trip off and will head up again when the weather improves.

The children woke up before us this morning.....killer when you are supposed to be the easter bunny lol.......especially because poor Si didn't even know if I had remembered to buy eggs and was torn between disappointing his children and waking his poor exhausted wife from her much needed sleep. Fortunately Meg and Phil are now way past the age of actually believing in a rather large rabbit with a bad chocolate habit and were quite happy to wait for me to wake up before going through the motions of the egg hunt......Megs did inform me however that next year I am going to have to be WAY more organised as little Nicholas will be into the whole thing by then and my lax attitude from this year just won't do. Little does she know that I have every intention of turning her into the easter bunny from now on :-)

Simon and the children are now at movies and I am sitting quietly restoring my equilibrium after a week of holidays whilst Nick sleeps upstairs. It is always at moments like this that my mind travels fondly back to South Africa and what we would be doing at this precise moment and it is not without a heavy heart that I think of our annual holiday to Bazley and how much fun we always had and would be having right now - I have absolutely no doubt that with time we will create similar warm memories of holidays here but for now every holiday or significant event is a rather sad reminder of what we have left behind and just how far we still have to go before England becomes our true home.

GF...well how crazy is it that I ended up on "your beach" and spent the day at the park, with the van Vuuren's, Bach's and Villet's. GF - you were so with me, almost as if I was there for you. It was a perfect day, and I could hear your voice over the sound of the blue blue waves. I saw you in the abundance of gorgeous shells, which lined the shore just like last year (remember how Megs enjoyed them!), and the little butterfly that darted inbetween us. The day was for me another "Wimpy Cheeseburger moment". We walked past your site often, which you'll be pleased to know was empty, - so symbolic of the big empty space you have left here, BUT change is good and such a critical part of life, and yes you may have missed the beach this year, but instead you have swopped it to be able to witness the magnificent change of seasons, snow, and a charmed life in the country, where beautiful bursts of yellow and a walk in the wood are available to enjoy as you wish.

Sometimes things are just not meant to be & its always for a good reason even if we don't & probably won't know why. You are so positive always & thats so refreshing even when things don't go how you imagine or want. You are blessed with a wonderful supportive family & you are making memories already. Just looking at the photo you can see your childrens joy.

hi my friend. It is only normal that you will get times that you are sad when you think back on your life here in S.A. but before you know it,you will have plenty things to look back on that you guys have experiences & enjoyed there in England.

Wish i was there to share the Cadbury easter eggs with the kids - my favourite chocolate.

Think that Megs is old enough to become the Easter bunny from next year.

Chin up & look at all the wonderful things that you have experienced there in England.

Love you staxs, Mary

Shame, sorry...but I also believe that if the odds are stacked against you continually it's gotta mean something...perhaps you rather needed the rest & reflective time that you managed rather. We went to Bazley last year & just LOVED it - now we have THAT holiday in our memories on top of all our ones around Zimbabwe over the years, so just keep on creating your new memories & they will "replace" (not replace but you know what I mean)...the old ones ;-)
